Going private...

Ok, here's one of those posts that will (hopefully) get comments.

I'm thinking about making this blog private. I'd leave my recipe blog open to public reading but close this one only to 'invited' readers. The more I think about all the weirdos out there, I tend to think it's a good idea. So (be honest) would those of you who read my blog still read if it were private? What is your opinion about public vs private family blogs?

I would love to still be able to read it. But in reality, I probably wouldn't. I read all my blogs using an RSS reader and subscribe that way. Private blogs wouldn't update in my reader, and I would have a hard time remembering to check it every so often. I understand the privacy issue, but feel like you can also be careful as to what you put out there.

I would still read your blog. I usually don't get to them daily, and sometimes not even weekly but I love reading them. Maybe I'm a weirdo out there but it's like I know you and your family so well because I can keep up with how big those kiddos are getting or whos crawling from your blog. LOL

I use blogger dashboard, and I have the same problem-- private blogs don't show updates. I would still read when I remember, but my memory is fading fast, I tell ya!

I would still read it! I have a lot of friends that have gone private so I'm thinking about making a new list of my private blog friends so I will remember to read them... I'm thinking about going private too. ps- We're keeping Cami in all our prayers!

I understand, Jennifer and Mary. I have a couple of friends that have gone private and I don't read theirs as often as others. And I agree with being careful what you post. But I'm thinking about printing out my blogging in book-form as our family 'scrapbooks.' And I don't want to have to edit my scrapbook (so to speak). Pros and cons with either way, I suppose...

I would definitely still read. However, when our blog was private for awhile, we had a bunch of people invited to read, but I don't think many people actually did. The comments definitely dropped dramatically and I know you love comments! I had the same concerns about weirdos, etc. but for the most part I think you can keep your family safe even with a public blog.

I'm all for a private family blog and keeping your recipe blog public. You can invite readers to your private blog and send email updates. You can give 'permission' up to 100 readers.

OK even though I live so close to you, I never see you. So if you go private I hope you send me an invite - I hope Cami is doing better, cute little thing.
