Your input...

One way to get comments on your blog is to ask for opinions....so here I go. :)

Today puts me at 31 weeks....only 6 weeks (maybe 7, but we'll hope not) left until the babies come!! So I should probably start thinking about getting my bag packed, in case we actually have a ''go into labor and head to the hospital'' type of situation instead of a planned c-section. So, here are my questions...feel free to respond to any/all! :)

**What did you take to the hospital that was a waste of packing space?

**What do you wish you'd brought?

**What did you take that you were glad you had?

Howdy,

Here is an old post I found on a baby forum that I wrote shortly after Gabi was born on this very topic. I hope it helps:

"I am in the hospital right now. They supply you with lots of pads (huge ones. Mine even have a built in cold pack in them to help with swelling.) They give you net panties to hold these giant pads in. Here are some suggestions on what to take:

your own pillow, pajamas or something comfortable to wear (I only wore my gown the first night, now I am in p.j.'s), camera and charger, shower supplies - soap, shampoo, razor, etc..the shower will feel great after birth!, things to read or do in the hospital, laptop (if your hospital has wifi), iPod to listen to for relaxing, snacks...my room has a microwave and a fridge in it. I'm so glad I brought cokes because I needed them!! Also, the food is kinda sucky and they don't give you much, so if you get hungry you will be glad you have them!, outfit for picture, going home outfits, if you wear contacts bring your glasses because you can't wear contacts if you happen to have to have a c-section. An extra plastic bag to put your dirty clothes in (my hospital gave me one)."

Something else that they gave me in the hospital that was my best friend was a bottle that squirted out water. It came in very handy to clean certain areas after labor! Especially helpful after a vaginal delivery. Are you having a c-section again? The water bottle will still come in handy. Something else to keep in mind...those pads are huge and I always wore a pair of underwear with the g's to kind of hold everything snug in place, if you know what I mean. Plus you will be bleeding a lot so you don't want to ruin all of your g's.

If you plan to have your babies suck pacifires you might bring some. The hospital provided me with some but they only gave me one, I think. Don't forget the cute hairbows for the pictures.

That's all I can think of right now. Hope this helps! You're getting close!

I would answer if I had any clue :o) I'll be asking you for advice in the future...distant future! As always, I would have chapstick, a pony tail holder, and gum. Seem to be my 3 staples! :o)

Waste?
A bunch of clothes (just take one outfit to come home in) and diapers for the baby. Use the hospitals! You pay for them anyway!!

Wish I had?
DVD player to hook to TV and movies/shows I liked to watch.

Glad I had?
Our laptop, roll of quarters for my hubby to be able to get his cokes, camera and video camera. Yeah, I could watch DVDs on the laptop, but it's just not the same as the TV...

My 2 musts are snacks for spouse and one of those button up the front old fashioned house dress PJ's for nursing and resting. I don't like the hospital gowns, but I think you have to wear them until the delivery...

I brought personal cleaning wipes, hospital tp is not the nicest. I also brought a nursing pillow, I had a c-section both times and even if you don't nurse, the pillow makes holding the baby easier on your incision. Your own pillow makes sleeping a little more comfortable; thick socks, not slippers, my room was never warm enough (but mine kids were Nov. & Feb. so that could have something to do with it!) And your camera, the hospital newborn pictures with Collin SUCKED and I was so glad that we had our camera taking better pictures! Email me if you want any more ideas!

Both of my kids were born 5 weeks early and we were caught unprepared both times!

I leave the hospital as quick as I can so really the only thing that I was so glad I brought were my own jammies - hospital gowns are yuck, even if it is only for 24 hours!

Not me! I stay as long as I possibly can! It is nice to be pampered and get rest before you have to go home and have to deal with real life.

Well, I'm planning on having a c-section...I just don't see things lining up for a VBAC. So I'll be there at least 3 days anyway.

Ok... it wasn't that long ago, so I'll try to remember...

Wish I had: movies on my ipod. I didn't want to lug out the laptop all the time, but we weren't in a 'birthing room' either, we were in a supply closet... wait, that's another story.

Definitely don't forget your camera with your charger and if you have a laptop, bring it. (and movies)

Bring your own pillow. I would also say bring your own tylenol/IBU (depending on how wonderful your insurance is). $12 for one IBU is just a little too crazy for me.

I was really glad I had my makeup. You're gonna be taking pictures like crazy and well, I wanted to look half-way decent. Also, a headband, hairclip, hair band, whatever. So you don't have to do it, but you don't look crazy either. Oh, and bring a brush.

Snacks.

Don't bring a ton of different baby outfits. We did b/c we weren't sure what would fit and whatnot. A total waste of space. Get two outfits and stick with them! :)

Hmmm, that's all I can think of right now. If I think of anything else later, I'll let you know! :)

Well, it's been soooooooooo long, and things were different. Dad was with me with you and Hope. You've gotten some good ideas, but whatever you plan on taking, by all means get it ready, now. You never know. Erin's got plenty of ideas. I think your own pillow is a great idea--wish I'd had mine last time I was there. Plenty of snacks for Zacie. And the plastic squirt bottle is great!!
